Minwax Ployshade Technique

I read somewhere on a DBA site about using Minwax Polyshade to shade and protect metal miniatures.  From the pictures I have seen, it does a pretty good job of making the figures features more prominent.  And it is supposed to protect the paint.  Has anyone tried this with their Mighty Armies?  I am thinking about trying this and wanted to know from people who have tried it.  Thanks.

Re: Minwax Ployshade Technique

Most of my MA and the ones you see on the site have been "Dipped". I have always had a problems with shades and washes, but this stuff is really amazing. Paint the basic colors and some highlights, let it dry and slop this stuff on. As it is drying, I take a brush and get rid of pooling Minwax. Then I dull coat the whole thing when it's dry.

I don't know about protecting, but it sure looks good. I'll try to find the old tutorial I read. It might Help ya.

Re: Minwax Ployshade Technique

I think I read the tutorial you are referring to.  One question/problem I have is finding the color mentioned, Tudor 360, Satin Finish.  Is this the color you use?  Where did you find it?  The darkest color I have found is some sort of dark walnut.  Thanks, Mike.

Re: Minwax Ployshade Technique

I had my local harware store order it for me. The stuff gives a very tough, almost armour plated finish. It will eat your brushes though.

Currently I am using Johnson's Future acrylic floor polish. This can be tinted wioth inks or left clear and applied over painted figures. I frequently use ink washes to shade and highlight figures in one quick step.
