Also....

Will MA:Ancients be compatible with MA?  I really like the idea of my dwarves taking on my Chinese and such.

That's the idea. We are playing around with the Magic vs Historical effects(morale, fear, duty) to try and keep it balanced. We have a very simple template done now and this weekend my Gauls will go head to head with Jason's Dwarves.. so we'll see...

I'll keep you posted.

Re: Mighty Armies Ancients....

Good to hear! This is sounding better and better!

Just a thought that I was toying with, as I was looking at my Orcs & Elves in their silvery glory, and thinking of basing options... Is there any value in using less than 4 figures per base to show "weight" (for want of a better term...) of the unit? As in, Heavy Infantry, Light Cav, etc, 'cos it seems that in the stats, some units are definately lighter than others. So maybe 2 figs for Lights, 3 for Medium and 4 for Heavy Infantry, and 2 and 3 for Light and Heavy Cav, respectively. Or maybe I've just played too much DBA?

Re: Mighty Armies Ancients....

I do like the idea of some visual way to determine a units fighting class.  I like to be able to tell by the way a unit is dressed (like chain mail, shields, leather, cloth, etc).  Changing the way a unit is based to dermine unit strength is an interesting idea.  I already base my cav with 3 to a base because 4 horses gets too crowded.  Three looks much better, IMHO.  The only other 15mm ancient wargame I played also based infantry 4 to a stand and cav 3 to a stand, so maybe I'm biased.  I do not remember what rules were being used, it was way back in high school (a few years ago, I'm afraid!).  Does DBA used numbers of figures per base to show strength classes?

Re: Mighty Armies Ancients....

Well, right now, here is how I have it broken down. Visually, you can display them how you like.  The key is the Base AP value, which should be displayed on your unit card. I'll give you an example(off the top of my head).

The base light Cav is a 2. This just gives you movement and a basic attack, and in this case a special of Moblie and Shooting 1.

So it would look like this: Speed 7  Fighting +2 Support +1  Special Moblie ,Shooting 1(Small Bow)  AP 2

You could base this how you like as long as it is on your unit card so that the other player(s) can identify the unit.

The unit card  will become important, if you give the unit more specialities like Fearless or Battlelust. These don't effect the Display of the unit but it does effect the AP and "value" of the unit.

Does that make sense? So unlike DBA, every army is a custom army list. You may have Spartan Army like mine, but I may pay more AP per unit  to give Battlelust to my Heavy Infantry. Your archers may have Long Range and mine may not..

Going back to the Cav. As an Example of 2 Mongolian Armies:

Army 1
40 AP gets you (guesstimating) 17 stands of standard light Cav and 1 General (6 Ap).
This is a fast Hit and Run Army.

Army 2
40 AP gets you (really guesstimating) 11 stands of standard light Cav(with Battlelust) and 1 General (6 Ap).
Battlelust basically is bezerker rage, so you get a saving throw on 5 or 6 if Killed.
This army is one that, you need to hit them and make sure they are dead.

Now, this is Shooting Cav and shooting is just hit or miss. In hand to hand, the idea is similar but everything really builds to the Fighting Score.

Hopefully, I'll have some stuff for the testers to look at soon on the" build your own army list"

Does this make sense?
