Red Ops 5 Battle

Just played our first game of RO5.  I replaced the card deck with a d20.  Zombies on even numbers/2.  Civilians on odd numbers greater than 9.  Had a total of 35 zombies by the time we called the game off.  Took us a bit to try and figure out what was what on shooting and melee.  Zombies don't do much in melee but I suppose once they get their numbers up then it makes a difference.  We struggled with trying to figure out shooting and shooting damage.  The passing dice seemed confusing.  I thought you had to roll low but the chart rewarded higher rolls.

Re: Red Ops 5 Battle

I have wanted to try the D20, so I think in today's game, I'll try your design.

The Zombies don't do much in melee but then they are supposed to be a "hore" and over whelm you with shear Undead goodness. :)

Shooting Hits is just an + to your target rep to see if you hit and combat is based on the Impact of the weapon. So you basically have to Hit, and then check damage or impact. I use the SMG mostly, so I get up to 3 die per shot. It is a little confusing to go from rolling high to needing to get 3 shots BELOW my weapons Impact for the damage.. I am not sure if thatt is in the original ATZ rules, but I am looking at it for future expansions.

For a SMG you roll 3d6 and add your Rep to each die?  Then compare the results to the Ranged Combat Table?  Then roll 1d6 for each hit and compare results to the Ranged Combat Damage Table, which must roll lower than my weapons Impact Rate?

I'm confused on what to do when passing dice.  I understand the paragraph explanation(i think) but when the need arises and we look at the melee results table we scratch our heads.  Zombies only pass 1d6 in melee?  Can you offer me an example of passing, and an example of melee?

Re: Red Ops 5 Battle

Passing dice really just means making your save on your rep score. In Melee, all humans have 2 D6 (unless more than one Zed is on you).  You roll the 2 D6 against the Zombies 1 D6 (This is what zombies get because we want to kill alot of Zombies).
For the Example, you are a rep 4 and the Zombie is a Rep 4. You roll a 3 and a 4. So you pass 2 Die. The Zombie rolls a 6, so he passed 0 die. You check the chart and see you won the round of melee. The Zombie is out of the fight. If you would have rolled a 1 he would be obviously dead.

The melee table *should* have this note:
One side passes 1d6 more than the other and “wins” the round of melee.
* Winner rolls on the Melee Damage Table to inflict wound.

Does that make sense?

Apparently, that got left out. I'll need to update it. Thanks for the heads up!.
