Re: My thoughts on Heavy Cav.. Out

One thing that has tested very well so far has been limiting groups to 4, using 2d6 and calculating the group combat score by using the fighting score of the two units in front and using the support score for the units in the back rank.  This has gone a long way towards making the veteran units worth the AP you have to spend for them .  Good luck with the testing.  I have the sheet just about done where I have tested about 1000 battles with random dice.  I just need to look at the results and verify my numbers.

We are going to playtest some of these ideas tonight.

In the Test : We will try each one.
-2D6(overall instead of 1d6)
-2d6(Opponent can roll against a heavy a Heavy group of 5 or more H units)
-Group FS. Primary gets FS, 1 Support and any other units at +1
-Pikes- +1 bonus Front row(Front Row must contain all pike units) +2 bonus for   Full group?

Anything else?

Mike

I did not understand the second point.

For additions...

Limit of 4 stands per group.  For a pure pike group, upto 6 stands (3 ranks deep) can be in a group.  In the unlikely event of a slaughter, use a D3 instead of a D6.

I have one of my own...it's very nice! :-)

I did 10,000 combats and can plug in combat factoirs and change the die types.  It calculates the chance of victory/defeat/tie and also shows the chance of a slaughter.

So far, choosing just 1 unit's CF and 1 unit's S seems to work really well if you limit to 4.

I've not tried both units in the front deal.  I've also not tried larger groups for special cases like pikes or large warbands yet.

( the best change I have seen yet and think works the best) I agree with Mark about using the 4 stands and using  the fighting score for the 2 in the front rank and regular support for the rear ranks.  This will make paying for better units a good reason in stead of paying for only one good unit and purchasing crapy ones for support only.  Also using the 2d6 for all combat and a d3 for massacre.  As for pikes a +1 sounds good also.  4 stands with a 60 point army using a d6 for command points is the best also.

I dont understand about the 2d6 your talking about against heavy units over 5 stands I thought we were all in agrement about the 2d6 for all units.

I have a question on artillery can you fire over friendly units since they were mostly indirect fire weapons unlike cannons which would need a clear path?

Re: My thoughts on Heavy Cav.. Out

So, lets say you have 2 units in front and two units in back.  The front units are different.  Which CF do you use?

What if the back units are different?
