This evening I played a solo game using the new rules for javelins and skirmishers. I found De Bellis Solitudinus [edit- Solitarius]on the Fanaticus website, a simple engine that allows you to set up and control an opposing army. Don't scoff, it almost won!
The skirmishers did their thing and came in pretty handy for slowing down the regular units.
The one unit I had reservations about was the Skythian Light Horse Archers, which have Skirmish and Shooting I. It turned out the only unit they managed to kill with their shooting was a Roman skirmisher!
I'll post some more photos and a AAR this week when I can. For now, here's a few photos. Sorry about the lack of painted miniatures, I'm just starting out!
The battle setup. Romans at top, Pontics below. Using the sample armies included in the lists I posted previously.

Romans move to engage while skirmishers duke it out

Roman cavalry and legionaries surround the Pontic General and infantry as the Pontic Cataphracts attempt to close. The entire game, they were slowed down by Roman skirmishers lurking in the nearby village.
