I thought I would take a little bit of time to talk about an upcoming MA book. As you know, the book is called Mighty Armies: Dark Ages and focuses on just that, the Dark Ages. Before I get into some changes in this new book, let me take a moment to talk about why this book is coming out.
As most of you know, I have had some big changes in my life. I have had to work alot more hours due to the fact that my real job has let so many people go. This hasn't left me with much free time and/or time to go to all of the shows I have wanted to... And when I come home, I spend most of my time packing up Rebel Minis orders. So enter Mark Harp.
Mark has been on the development team since the start and had been recenently working on Mighty Armies: Medieval. Long Story short, we both agreed to work on a Dark Age version first to hash out some tactics/weapons/style that would come up in Medieval. It was also helpful that David at Splintered Light Minis offered to develop Dark Ages Armies for us :) So there you have it...That why. I get alot of emails on the Fantasy, so I will say this, Fantasy is coming.. please bear with us :)
About MA:DA. There are going to be some changes. We learned alot from MA: Ancients.. but 2 things stood out. One was the declaring a primary fighter and the second was Tournements.
In MA: DA we are going to be doing away with the primary fighter system. Basically, we will substitue that system with the Front Line fighting score and back line support score. We feel that this makes more sense and allows historical tactics to be more accurate. I'll have more on this with notes, as we more futher on is playtesting.
Tournements. What did we learn from Ancients? Well, we learned that building your own armies is great for club and fun games, but in Tournements it is a REAL Problem. I am not going to go into detail, but it was bad.. real bad. Uber armies, stacked armies and more. I'll talk about it if you ask me at the shows :)
So... we will be adding set army lists for competitions. There won't we a ton to start with, but we will be taking submissions to add more as time goes on.
There is alot more, but I hope to have another update after Thanksgiving. I have emailed out alot of the Playtest stuff and if you did not get yours. drop me a line.
Any questions, let me know!
As always, thank you for your support!
Mike
